What is the difference between MAFF and NFSA size limits?
|
MAFF landing sizes are set by UK government and are the legal minimum size a species must be if you wish to keep the fish or use it as bait be it dead or alive rather than returning it safely back to the sea free and alive as soon as possible.
NFSA are retention sizes set out by the Nation Federation of Sea Anglers, these sizes exceed that of MAFF and are put in place to help protect young fish were the government sizes are not that environmentally / conservation friendly.
Which set of limits must I follow?
If your fishing a match then you will be told which set of limits are being used, as a pleasure angler I would recommend using the NFSA, this way you are helping to protect your hobby/sport. By law you must as a minimum use the MAFF limits, these are law, people have been found breaking this law and served with big fines or even imprisonment.
