The Inter-Counties Charity Match 2005

Oh what a day...

The ICCM was fished on the 20th, February by 66 anglers, a third of the people signed up decide that either the weather was too cold, illness or other reasons that they could not attend what turned out to be another great day out.

The day went pretty well considering it snowed the night before leaving the roads down to Dunwich in a dangerous state, the staff at the Ship Inn made us very welcome by providing us with bacon rolls and hot drinks early on Sunday morning as well as allowing us to take their restaurant over for the after match presentations, thanks must go to David and his Staff.
Once booking in was completed we all made our way over to the beach to find a snow covered and cold shoreline but with the wind at only around 10mph it was not to bad, a nice looking rough cod holding sea ahead. Once the match got started the first fish soon came in, John Abbott landing a 2oz pouting on his maiden cast, I bet he didn't think that would end up as his only fish of the day and even go on to win him a prize, with hindsight he could have been in the pub the rest of the day.
As with most outside events the weather just got worse with the wind getting up to a very strong 30+mph straight down the beach making it hard to fish against the current and the weed it dragged up. I think by 3pm everyone was more that happy to pack up, any longer on the beach could have been a little bit hard to cope with.
The weigh-in was quickly completed over at the car park and everyone raced over to the pub for a warm up and a pint whilst we continued to sell raffle tickets and sort out the prizes.
The team captains with help from Jake did a great job in sorting the winning weight out and soon the news came through...

The winning county was once again Suffolk for the second time running with an amazing weight of 8lb 10oz from its top five with Essex second, only 2 anglers putting 1lb 6oz in with 3 fish and Cambridgeshire bring just over 11oz to the scales for third place. Norfolk's 15 anglers failed to catch putting them right at the bottom, bit like the counties football team I guess....

The winning weight game ran by Nigs was won be Jake Smith with a spot on guess of 2lb 14oz, he looked more than pleased with his prize of a tin of Quality Street bless him.

The raffle went well and helped put £164 in to the charity fund, many thanks to the countless people that gave us the prizes, this was a real boost that we so badly needed.
