| This was the one day in October that we had been waiting for, the Floaters free to enter match with £50 in the pot for the taking, this should have been a nice crisp winters match, it turned out to be more like a summer match, did it matter, not at all. | |

The day started early for Jake Smith, he got the job of
pegging the beach with just 90 sticks whilst Mark Alsop skilfully drove
his toasty warm 4x4 along passing the pegs out of the window, Those two
work so well together, what a team. The stretch of the beach used was
from the Willington Pier towards the river Yare.
The draw took place at Floaters shop in Estcourt Rd, the pools and registration took place at a snails pace, I think Mark and John Abbott was trying to break a record of how many people can fit into the shop at one stage. The record was not to be set though because of the many chain smokers among us hanging around in the street all trying to avoid the local cameraman, anglers first thing on a Sunday morning is not the best TV in the world. We finally got sorted, the Floaters bait was without a doubt fantastic, orders of 4000+ did not seem a problem either. Once on the beach I found that I was pegged next to another Suffolk lead swinger in the form of Jake Smith of the ICCM 04 fame, glad to see he can finally cast straight, well most of the time (Mark-that's for you, lol), just down the beach was Nigs, just far enough to keep him away from me..... |
The
day was long and slow at our end of the beach, the chap to my right
(that's his 4x4 in the picture) landed a few dabs, pout and whiting from
what I could see, Jake made some sand castles or as said in this part of
the world "caaaar-sils" and then tried fishing for a while
getting a couple of double shots. The old rumour mill soon got up and
running with news that a lady angler had two codling and a bass in her
bucket caught just 10 foot out in the surf, the rumour grew in strength
as her other half fishing next to Jake backed the story.
The chaps on the southern end of the area seemed to be having a better day, Kevin Eley worked hard to pull a few fishing out but many undersize, his young son also managed to tempt many fish out too but the size was just not enough to win the match out right but still got him a junior prize, or as John Abbott would say a juvenile placement, lol, guess John was still in a courtroom in his head. The anglers that did manage to weigh in and a few that did not made their way to the Rock Pub on the sea front for the prize giving, this is the first pub that I have ever seen with hardly any booze on tap, they were serving Boddingtons by the can, they did not even bother pouring it for you, odd people them Norfolk folk. Even if I had got a nasty cold (I'm a man so it was flu) and I failed to catch anything, it was still a great day with great people, we were made very welcome by the host county and I'm proud to say that our end of the beach, not sure about the rest, was left in a very clean condition. Pure anglers with not a sign of a dangler, well except Jake and Nigs but they can't help it, so I blanked, leave me alone you two..... |

| The major winner was Mr P Smith with 3lb 11oz mainly due to a nice sized codling, that scooped him the £50, the pools and of course his section, net value of his fish must have been around £25 per pound, now that is expensive fish, well done to him and everyone else, I hope that Floaters will do another match like this again, maybe next October!!! | |
