| I've got a couple of green Mag Elites and have used and abused them for the last couple of years. I had a few
problems with them, I've managed to pop the welding on a couple of cages casting
with the reel up to start with, then forced myself to cast with the reel down and not had a problem since. I supposed it's must be because I'm just soooo
damn good at casting and bent the rod too much, mere mortals would never have been able to do it (cough
cough). Secondly I've had problems with the spool re-engage device on both reels I've got. Anyway, getting to the point I decided after the second one went, the 'oh so pwetty' orange and grey one had just come out, all new and improved I'd go for a pair of them. First impressions are that they are pretty much the same as the old reel. The star drag is a different shape, the handle and the brake block system is different. There is also a different spool, although I gather this was available on the last of the old ones. On the beach they seem to perform very well. The first thing I noticed was that they are almost silent when casting. The old ones made a good old whine when you let one go, these just gently purr! The retrieve also seems to be much smoother than the green elites. Maybe ABU have got the problems that some experienced with the gears sorted. Although I've only had them a couple of months now they seem to be performing well. I do tend to forget about my reels after a session and they often sit there for a week (or two) without being rinsed off, but there are no signs at all of any corrosion or markings on them at all. They appear to be as smooth and quiet as when they came out of the box and they still look the dogs danglies when strapped to a rod!
